Global Redundancy Configuration

You can configure more than one AppDirector platform on a network so that they back up one another. If there is a failure of any network interface, AppDirector fails the whole platform, and the backup platform, previously handling its own farms, takes over all activity. The Global Configuration pane lets you enable a backup platform.

To access AppDirector global redundancy

4	Go to AppDirector > Redundancy > Global Configuration. The Global Redundancy Configuration pane displays.

To configure global redundancy parameters

1.	From the AppDirector menu, select Redundancy > Global Configuration. The Global Redundancy Configuration pane displays.

2.	Set the parameters.

 

Parameter	Description
IP Redundancy Admin Status	Each pair of AppDirectors can function in an active/backup setup or active/active setup. To achieve redundancy between pairs of AppDirector platforms, these methods are used: Disable VRRP — Working with Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol enables dynamic redundancy to be maintained using a logical entity called a virtual router. Default: Disable
Interface Grouping	Ensures that if one port fails, the others are also taken down. When it is enabled, the backup platform takes over only when all the interfaces of the main platform are down. Default: Disabled
ARP with Interface Grouping	Defines whether the platform can send ARP requests (when the platform is the backup platform) with active interface grouping. Send (Default) Avoid
Backup Device in VLAN	Enables the platform to backup another platform in VLAN configuration. Values: Forward Traffic — Forward all traffic. This is the default value, but should be used only when AppDirector is in routing configuration. Block Broadcast — When AppDirector is in backup state, broadcast traffic is blocked to prevent loops. Block All — When AppDirector is in backup state, all traffic is blocked to prevent loops. This cannot be used in a fully redundant network configuration. Note: Backup in VLAN only works when the VLAN is configured as: Type = regular and protocol = IP
Backup Interface Grouping	When it is enabled the backup takes over only when IP interfaces defined in its Redundancy Table fail. Respectively, it releases those interfaces only when all the main's interfaces are up. Default: Enabled
VRRP Advertise Interval [msec.]	Interval that the main platform sends active messages. Values: 100 – 25,000 msec. Default: 0 msec. Note: Configuring the specific advertisement interval value for a VRRP entry is only possible when the global value is set to 0. When the global value is not 0, the specific values for VRRP entries are discarded and the global value is used. See Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol.
VRRP Automated Configuration Updates	AppDirector can add a new Virtual IP address configured on the platform to the VRRP Associated IP Addresses table. When the Automated VVRP Configuration feature is enabled and a Layer 4 policy is configured that uses a new Virtual IP address, this IP address is associated with the VRID defined for the AppDirector interface that belongs to the same subnet as the Virtual IP address. Messages are sent to the platform log announcing that a Virtual IP address was associated to a specific VRID and interface. Values: Enabled, Disabled Default: Disabled
Force Down Ports Time	The period of time for which the port must be down. Values: 0 (the feature is disabled) or 5 – 60 seconds. When enabled, the value depends on how long it takes the switch to clear its MAC tables.
Failure Action	This defines when Proxy related failures induces failover in an active-backup configuration. Accel-engine Fail — Acceleration Engine failure. SSL or Accel-engine Fail — SSL accelerator or Acceleration Engine failure. Compression or Accel-engine Fail — Hardware Compression Card or Acceleration Engine failure. SSL or Compression or Accel-engine Fail — SSL Accelerator, Hardware Compression Card or Acceleration Engine failure. Ignore — Ignore failures and do not perform failover.

3.	Ensure that IP Redundancy Admin Status is enabled, unless the network is a one-legged configuration.

4.	Ensure that Interface Grouping is disabled.

5.	Click Set.
